At Vitto Brand Foods we are really big on sausages, in fact we are the third largest privately owned sausage maker in Canada. Last year, we made over 34 million sausage links and if they were laid end to end, they would stretch all the way from Sudbury to Vancouver and back home again. Not too bad for a little company from Sudbury that first introduced freshly made Italian sausage to Canadian supermarket shelves nearly 30 years ago.


However, we are not only really big on sausages, we also distribute wieners, Italian meatballs, ham, pork schnitzel, meatloaf, pepperoni sticks, deli meats, chicken breasts and perogies.

Vitto Brand Foods' sausages and other products are placed in special oxygen-barrier preformed trays, which are made with a conventional foam tray and sealed with a machine that produces hermetically sealed packages through a M.A.P. (Modified Atmosphere Packaging) system. This system eliminates crushing and requires no rewrapping at store level which eliminates the problems of cross-contamination and deterioration of the product.


Air is removed from the package and replaced with the correct modified atmosphere mixture. The products are protected because the package is more durable than a standard foam tray with plastic overwrap, and the shelf life of the product is extended to between 14 to 21 days from the 6 to 8 days that is recommended for fresh sausages in a plain, overwrapped tray.
